Povzetek:

Komedija je posneta po romanu francoskega pisatelja Balzaca. Dogaja se v Franciji okoli leta 1840. Zagrenjena, osamljena in ljubosumna Bette Fisher se hoče maščevati sestri Adeline, svaku Hectorju in nečakinji Hortense, ker so se vedno norčevali iz nje in jo poniževali. Bette v svoj maščevalni načrt vplete najbogatejšega Parižana Cesarja Crevela, revnega umetnika Wenceslasa in lepo igralko Jenny. Okoli njih kot pajek splete mrežo prevar, škandalov in strasti ter se pri tem tudi sama strastno zaljubi.
