Povzetek:

V Angliji v zgodnjih 70. letih se lastnik lokala z ribami in krompirčkom George Khan trudi, da bi pri svoji družini ohranil tradicionalne pakistanske vrednote in način življenja - a vse kaže, da je njegov trud zaman. Mati njegovih šestih svojeglavih sinov in ene hčere je namreč Angležinja in odrasli so v kulturi Velike Britanije, zato se imajo za polnokrvne Britance. Najstarejši sin raje pobegne od doma, kot da bi moral skleniti dogovorjeno poročno zvezo. Ko podobne očetove namene zase odkrijeta še druga najstarejša fanta, se upreta in povzročita nemir pod domačo streho, ki bo slednjič prisilil vsakogar od njih, da bodo na novo odkrili pravi pomen družine.
