Povzetek:

Alfonso (Haimer Leal) je ostarjeli farmer koji se vraća kući zbog svog sina Gerarda (Edison Raigosa) koji je smrtno bolestan. U njegovoj staroj kući još uvijek živi njegova bivša supruga Alicia (Hilda Ruiz) zajedno sa snahom Esperanzom (Marleyda Soto) za koju je samo čuo i unukom za kojeg nije ni znao da postoji. Plantaža šećerne trske koja okružuje kuću je neiskorištena i propada, te nakon 17 godina Alfonso će pokušati spasiti i svoju zemlju i svoju obitelj.

Film "Zemlja i sjena" prikazan je tijekom 2015. godine na festivalima diljem svijeta na kojima je osvajao brojne nagrade, a ističe za nagrada na festivalu u Cannesu (Golden Camera) i San Sebastijanu (Nagrada publike)

Alfonso se vraća kući u rodno selo iz kojeg je izbivao 17 godina. Iza sebe je ostavio ženu Aliciu
i sina Gerarda koji su ostali na zemlji. Sin se u međuvremenu oženio lijepom, poslušnom i vrijednom
ženom i sa njom dobio svog sina Manuela ali se, radeći kao nadničar na susjednim plantažama šećerne
trske teško razboleo. Njegova majka i žena sada idu u nadnicu, a otac se vraća kako bi se brinuo o
njemu, o svom unuku i o kući.
