Lucy je glavna medicinska sestra na pediatričnem oddelku bolnišnice. Ko sprejmejo podhranjenega štiriletnega dečka Adama, njegova mati Rebecca prejme sodno odredbo, ki ji omejuje obiske. Vendar noče zapustiti sina, zato se Lucy znajde v vlogi posrednice med obupano neizkušeno mlado materjo, nepopustljivo socialno delavko in nepotrpežljivim zdravnikom.
