Povzetek:
V času pred 1. svetovno vojno, ko je bila homoseksualnost v Angliji nekaj nezaslišanega, sošolca na univerzi Cambridge postaneta dobra prijatelja, nekega dne pa si končno izpovesta ljubezen. Sprva prestrašeni Maurice (James Wilby) slednjič sprejme Clivovo izpoved in mu želi svojo naklonjenost dokazati tudi telesno. Vendar si Clive (Hugh Grant) želi platonskega odnosa; frustrirani aristokrat se boji javnega zasmehovanja, škandala in sramote. Čez čas se v poskusu, da bi zadostil družbenim pričakovanjem, zaroči in poroči z žensko. Maurice je skrušen. Potem pa spozna Scudderja (Rupert Graves), gozdarja na Clivovem posestvu, s katerim začneta strastno ljubezensko razmerje.
