Film prati Sugi Toranosukea, ronina koji se vraća kući u rodni Edo, mnogo godina nakon što je kao
bolešljivo dete pokušao da se ubije. Spasio ga je i usvojio majstor mačevalac i od njega stvorio isto
vrsnog majstora i gospodina.
Godina je 1868. i približava se kraj feudalnog sistema kojeg su održavali samuraji. Sugi je zbunjen
situacijom i ne zna šta se dešava, ali njegov učitelj je rešen da ga izbavi iz haosa koji je nastao
zbog borbe za vlast različitih klanova...
