Radnja filma je smještena 1945. kraj jezera u hotelu "Pension of the Sirene" koji vodi Marta uz pomoć kćerke Rose. Rose zna da joj majka ima ljubavnika kojeg skriva na tavanu i čeka povratak svog oca, vojnika. Sprijateljila se s unukom pariškog svećenika. U hotelu je također odsjeo nasilni kriminalac Rodolfo.
