Povzetek:

Film je snimljen prema dramskim tekstovima Terensa Ratigana, a radnja mu je smještena u hotel u engleskom gradu Bournemoutu gde prati međusobne odnose gostiju i članova osoblja.

Mirni život zaspalog hotela iznenada razbudi dolazak prelepe Ane Šankland koje želi videti svog bivšeg muža, alkoholičara Džona Malkoma. Džon je trenutno vjeren za vlasnicu hotela, Pat Kuper. U međuvremenu, umišljena gospođa Rajlton-Bel otkrije da simpatični bojnik Polok nije ono za što se predstavlja. Te vesti posebno šokiraju njenu kćer, Sibil, koja je zaljubljena u bojnika.
