Povzetek:

To je zgodba o zvestobi, krivdi, upanju in zapletenem ljubezenskem trikotniku. Sarah Miles je zdolgočasena žena britanskega uradnika, s katerim sredi druge svetovne vojne živi v Londonu. Ko jo mož predstavi ameriškemu pisatelju Mauriceu Bendrixu, do njega takoj začuti privlačnost, ki se ji ne more upreti. Prav tako se ne more upreti zanimanju, ki ga zanjo pokaže Maurice. Toda strastno razmerje se konča tako iznenada, kot se je tudi začelo. Brez pojasnil Maurice ostane sam, zato začne iskati odgovore.
