    Mladi odvjednik Vincent Day radi kao tužilac i na dobrom je putu prema uspjehu.
    Kada Vincent shvati da je čovjek koji je osuđen na smrt sa električnom stolicom
    nevin, zgrozi se i da otkaz. Uskoro se zaposli kao branitelj, specijaliziran za
    zastupanje gangstera i kriminalaca, te iskorišćava svaku taktiku da ih oslobodi.
    Vremenom Vincent postane utjecajan i bogat, ali i shvati u kakvim zabludama je bio.

    Film se djelimično naslanja na roman 'The Great Mouthpiece' autora Genea Fowlera
    u kojem opisuje život velikog branitelja Billa J. Fallona koji je uspješno branio
    kockara i gangstera Arnolda Rothsteina u 20-tim godinama prošlog stoljeća.
