Povzetek:
Njemački crno-bijeli nijemi film snimljen 1913. u režiji Hannsa Heinza Ewersa i Stellana Ryea, najpoznatije kao prvo cjeloverčernje ostvarenje u historiji horor žanra.
Radnja filma je smještena u Prag 1820. godine, a naslovni protagonist (čiji lik tumači Paul Wegener) je siromašni student Baldwin koji zbog ljubavi prema lijepoj grofici vlastitu dušu proda čarobnjaku Scapinelliju (čiji lik tumači John Gottowt), ne znajući da je zbog toga stvorio zlog dvojnika koji će ga progoniti. Film se smatra važnim i zbog toga jer je prvo cjelovečernje ostvarenje čiji su tvorci odbacili teatralnost karakterističnu za francuski pokret film d'art te nastojali koristiti nove tehnike koje će kasnije postati odlika njemačkog filmskog ekspresionizma.
