    Januar 1964., američke trupe nazivaju "vojnim savjetnicima" u Vijetnamu. Major Asa Barker
    dobio je naredbu da ide u ruralni Muc Wa, poprište masakra francuskih vojnika tijekom Prvog rata 
    u Indokini samo deset godina ranije. Barker je ostarjeli veteran i ovo mu je treći rat u kojem sudjeluje. 
    Služio je i tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata i kasnije u Korejskom ratu. Sada je poslan u selo Muc Wa 
    kako bi nadgledao savjetnički kadar vezan uz grupu južnih vijetnamaca koji su u opsadi napuštenog Muc Waja.

    Film je dobio naziv po Simonidovom epitafu o tri stotine vojnika koji su poginuli u bitci kod Termopila 
    protiv perzijanaca: "Idi, reci Spartancima, ti stranče koji prolaziš, da ovdje, poslušni zakonima, mi ležimo." izvor: mojtv
