Povzetek:

Drama. Radnja se zbiva u Parizu. Maxime Scabbard (P. McEnery) dolazi u posjet svom bogatom ocu, industrijalcu Alexandreu (M. Piccoli), i njegovoj prekrasnoj mladoj ženi, Kanađanki Renée (J. Fonda). Maxime se vratio sa studija u Engleskoj i namjerava ostati kod njih. Nakon što Renée ispriča Maximu svoju tužnu životnu priču, dogodi se ljubav, pa ona zatraži razvod. Alexandre nema ništa protiv jedino traži od nje da se odrekne bogatstva koje je donijela u brak. Ona prihvati i odlazi u Švicarsku zbog razvoda. Alexander iskoristi to vrijeme da svom sinu iz prvog braka ponudi izbor: otići sa siromašnom Renée ili se zaručiti s kćeri bogatog bankara. Maxim je odlučio zaručiti se...
