Film koji se tematski bavi problemom iskorištavanja radnica na rižinim poljima Piemontea. Postigao je veliki uspjeh izvan Italije zahvaljujući i erotskim elementima nastupa glumice Silvane Mangano, koja je tako postala prva predstavnica pin-upa u talijanskoj kinematografiji.
