Reka Suzhou koja protiče kroz Šangaj je rezervoar prljavštine, haosa i siromaštva, ali i mesto susreta sećanja i tajni.
Režiser i scenarist koji je proveo mladost na obalama Suzhoa prikazuje tu reku kao kineski Stiks, u kojem se zaboravljene priče
i misterije sastaju.
Mardar, kurir na motoru u svojim dvadesetim godina, putuje po celom gradu i odlično ga poznaje.
Uspešan je zato što nikad ne postavlja pitanja. Jednog dana, sumnjivi trgovac alkoholom ga zamoli da njegovu 16-ogodišnju kćerku Moudan,
odvede kod tetke. Moudan i Mardar se zbližuju. Ali njihova sreća je prekinuta kad Moudan pomisli da ju je Mardar kidnapovao.
Razočarana, skače u reku, a Mardar je osumnjičen za ubistvo...
Posle nekoliko godina izlazi iz zatvora i sreće plesačicu Meimei, alter-ego Moudan..... Nagrade i nominacije.
