Povzetek:
Lambert je tih, neopazen moški srednjih let, ki v nočnih izmenah dela na pariški bencinski črpalki. Nima prijateljev in družine, njegova edina uteha je zvesta steklenica ruma. Nekega dne v njegov lokal in življenje vstopi mladi arabski moški Bensoussan. Tudi tujec nima nobenega svojca, sam živi v temačni sobi in se preživlja s preprodajo mamil. Med osamljenima človekoma se kmalu razvije prijateljstvo, vendar se tragično konča, ko Bensoussana nekoč surovo umorijo pred Lambertovimi očmi. Ta ugotovi, da storilci prihajajo iz kroga prekupčevalcev mamil in sklene se jim maščevati za smrt prijatelja. Pri tem mu pomaga Lola, mlada odpadnica, ki je tudi sama kratek čas poznala Bensoussana. Med terjanjem pravice bo Lambert obračunal tudi z lastno tragično preteklostjo.
