Povzetek:
Bil Roberts radi kao ložač na parnom brodu. Ionako prljav i težak posao, njemu i ostalim radnicima dodatno otežava nadzornik Endi koji uživa da im zagorčava život. Prilikom jednog od izlazaka s broda, Bil vidi mladu ženu koja skače u more - očigledno pokušavajući da izvrši samoubistvo.
