Povzetek:

Spremljamo dijake majhne zasebne šole nekje na industrijskem severu Anglije. Pretirano optimistični ravnatelj določi osem dijakov, ki naj bi uresničili sanje vsakega angleškega dijaka in se vpisali na prestižno univerzo. V ta namen ravnatelj na šolo povabi učitelja Irwina, ki je pred kratkim diplomiral na Oxfordu in ki naj bi s svojim metodičnim učenjem do potankosti izpilil znanje osmerice. Toda dijaki, ki jih bolj zanima zabava, seks in šport, raje sledijo popustljivemu učitelju literature, ki meni, da se morajo dijaki življenjske modrosti naučiti predvsem iz svojih napak.
