Povzetek:
Celo odkrita naklonjenost socialne delavke Marilyn Birchfield ne more obuditi duha zagrenjenega uslužbenca newyorške zastavljalnice Sola Nazermana, ki je med svojo internacijo v nacističnem koncentracijskem taborišču izgubil vero v človeštvo. Njegova žalostna prepričanja in nazori se še okrepijo, ko odkrije, da se lastnik zastavljalnice ukvarja tudi s prostitucijo in zločinskimi posli. Šele ko med ropom njegov pomočnik žrtvuje svoje življenje zanj, se Sol prebudi iz cinične otopelosti. Za svoj igralski nastop v filmu slavnega Sidneyja Lumeta je bil Rod Steiger nominiran za oskarja.
