Povzetek:

Drama o ljubavnom trokutu u kojem su se našli mladi naivni Amerikanc, cinični stari Britanc i mlada Vijetnamka tijekom Prvog indokineskog rata 1952. Amerikanac Alden Pyle (A. Murphy) radi za humanitarnu organizaciju i nastoji pomoći lokalnom stanovništu, ali se sukobi s komunističkim gerilcima, kao i s britanskim ratnim dopisnikom Thomasom Fowlerom (M. Redgrave) kojem preotme mladu ljubavnicu Phuong (G. Moll)...
Snimljeno prema romanu britanskog književnika Grahama Greenea koji je film otvoreno kritizirao i nazvao ga propagandnim za razliku od američke kritike koja ga je hvalila. Nova verzija snimljena 2001. puno je bliža Greenovom predlošku, a u glavnim su ulogama Michael Caine i Brendan Fraser.
