Povzetek:

Slovenija u vrijeme vjerske netrpeljivosti krajem 17. vijeka. Kanonik Amandus u ime katoličanstva progoni protestante. Djevojka, protestantkinja, koja mu jednom spasi život, zaljubljuje se u njega, ali njemu je vjera važnija od ljubavi. Razvija se zaplet u kojem je vjerski fanatizam postavljen iznad ljudskih osjećanja i života.
