The Abduction Club (2002)

Romantična komedija o irskim mladićima koji do svojih budućih žena moraju doći otmicom. Radnja se događa 1780. u irskoj pokrajini Waterford. Garrett Byrne (Daniel Lapaine) je plemić koji, kao mlađi sin u obitelji, neće ništa naslijediti. Budući da ne želi postati svećenik, pridružio se Klubu otimača skupini plemića što organizira otmice bogatih nasljednica koje, prije ili poslije otmice, nagovaraju na udaju. Based on actual events that took place in Waterford, Ireland, in the late 1700s, director Stefan Schwartzs romantic comedy-drama concerns itself with a group of abductors who kidnap usually willing young women in order to persuade them to wed. Set during an era where law dictates that the eldest sons inherit family estates and younger siblings are left to either enter the priesthood or the military, young noblemen decide to take matters into their own hands by abducting the young heiresses and charming them for a night before releasing them to make their ultimate decision. As Anne (Sophia Myles) is subjected to the uninvited advances of Power (Liam Cunningham), Abduction Club member Byrne (Daniel Lapaine) schemes to kidnap Annes older sister Catherine (Alice Evans). Though the kidnapping plan is foiled when Anne decides to tag along, Byrnes friend Strang (Matthew Rhys) finds himself attracted to the younger sister despite Abduction Club rules stating that abductees must be at least

Sinopsis

Byrne i Strang, dva zgodna, mlada otmičara zagrist će puno veći zalogaj nego što su mislili, kada otmu živahne sestre Kennery.

Radnja se događa u Irskoj, oko 1780. godine. Prema tadašnjem irskom zakonu o nasljeđivanju, svo bogatstvo i titule u imenu idu starijim sinovima. Tako da mlađim sinovima u bogatim obiteljima prijeti život u siromaštvu, ili još gore, u Crkvi.

Kako bi izbjegli okrutnu sudbinu, oni nemaju drugog izbora, već pokušati oteti bogate, mlade djevojke iz visokih krugova društva. Otmice se izvode prema strogim pravilima gospodskog ponašanja. Maskirani na konjima, mladići otimaju djevojke pred nosevima njihovih očeva.

Imaju vremena do zore uvjeriti potencijalne nevjeste da se odmah udaju za njih, te tako osiguraju svoju financijsku stabilnost u budućnosti.
